The 2004 Vintage was twice voted by Wine Lovers attending Winex to be one of South Africa’s 10 best red wines.  This unusual blend really states what Lindhorst is all about. This wine has for the second year in a row, received one of 10 gold medals from the French judges at the Santé Classic wine trophy. 2004 vintage is again in the top 10 ten South African red wines, this time in 2nd place.

Tasting Notes  -  A rich blend of Shiraz & Merlot fruit that combines new world ripe fruit flavours with a more classic style.  Dark chocolate, coffee mocha is complemented by loads of red fruit.  The promise on the nose follows through to the palate with layers of fruit nicely complemented by the rich coffee mocha flavors.  Ripe, structured tannins add to the mouth feel.  A suede-like elegance on the palate ends off with a long lingering finish.  This wine shows classic style and will drink well for 5 to 8 years.

Food Recommendations  -  This is a versatile wine to be enjoyed with a wide variety of dishes like Shepherd’s pie, roast turkey, Irish stew, steak and kidney pie, lamb shanks, sausage barbecue, lamb and calves liver, Lancashire stew, corned beef hash, meat balls, savoury mince, chilli con carne, cous cous, pumpkin risottos, vegetable dishes based on mushrooms.

2004 MAX’S TRIBUTE
The wine is dedicated to the memory of Max Lindhorst, Marks father, who gave him the opportunities in life and encouragement to create Lindhorst Wines. Veritas has awarded it a silver Medal.

Tasting Notes - On appearance the wine has a ruby core with slightly lighter rim.  On the nose there is lovely ripe dark fruit with some cigar box, cassis and herbaceous notes. This is followed through on the palate together with typical cassis character. The fruit and herbs are supported well by a firm tannin structure.  This wine drinks well now or can be kept in the cellar for three years or more.  It will benefit from decanting.

Food Recommendations – full flavoured meaty casseroles, grilled meat & game, lamb ragout with roasted sweet peppers, osso buco, ostrich, shepherds pie, steak with mustard or soy sauce, seared tuna with pepper crust, mustard greens.

2006 SAUVIGNON BLANC
Lindhorst has always said “We are serious about terroir”, so when it came to our first white wine under the Lindhorst label, we sourced it from one of the best white wine regions, Durbanville. The block is situated on a southeastern slope about 9 km from the sea (280m above sea level). The soil is deep hutton with broken shale.

Tasting Notes - Clear, bright appearance.  Loads of tropical fruit, guava and grape fruit and hints of fresh grass on the nose. Fruit follows through on the palate with good acid integration and lift. Wood exposure and lees contact becomes evident in the rich mid palate mouth feel. The wine has improved after six months in the bottle and is best drunk within two years of harvest. It should be enjoyed chilled. (Tasted 01/07)

Food Recommendations - Clear vegetable consommé, poached veal or stewed hake, fried poultry, fried rabbit with a delicate wine and herb sauce. Grilled fish and mussels. Most herbs and spices, mustard, lemon rind and capers. Goats milk and fresh cheeses.
